Obituary Hymie D. (H.D.) Berman Berman, Hymie D.
(H.D.) Born 1909 age 97, of Minneapolis died Saturday, April 14, 2007.
Preceded in death by father, David Berman; mother, Etta Lurie Berman; wife,
Ruth (Schwartz) Berman; and 9 siblings. Survived by children, Judy (Mel)
Goldfein, Sheila (Happy) (Louis) Feigelson, Ann Arbor, MI, David (Connie)
Berman, Iowa City, IA; grandchildren, Natalie Goldfein, Heidi Goldfein (Dave
Newman), Miriam Goldfein, Daniel Feigelson (Sara), Aaron Feigelson (Leslie
Landman), Josh Feigelson (Natalie Blitt), and Ben Berman; and 10 great
grandchildren. He is the last survivor of 33 Minneapolis Berman first
cousins. Hymie and wife Ruth founded The Judy Company, an educational toy
manufacturing company, known for puzzles, blocks and the yellow and red
wooden Judy clock used in elementary schools nationwide. He was a member of
the Minneapolis Public School Board and the Minneapolis Planning Commission.
He was chairman of the Minneapolis Citizens Committee for Public Education. A
graduate of North High in 1926, he graduated from the University of Minnesota
in 1930 with a degree in Psychology. Hymie dabbled in the field of
entomology, was an Eagle Scout and was a championship bugler. As an adult he
was an avid photographer, prolific gardener, woodworker, computer geek, Hebrew
scholar, sukkah builder, and frequent traveler to Israel with Ruth. He is
part of us. He had a great run. We are all lucky to have been part of it.
Funeral service MONDAY (TODAY) 2 PM at BETH EL SYNAGOGUE, 5224 W. 26th St.,
St. Louis Park. Donations preferred to the Talmud Torah of Minneapolis or
